The city of Vila Real de Santo António is located on the right bank of the Guadiana River. 

It was the Marquis of Pombal who ordered it to be built in 1774, in order to strengthen the Portuguese presence in front of Ayamonte at the mouth of the Guadiana and thus be able to control the border trade and develop fishing.

Later, where the canning industry would be born, the construction opted to transmit simplicity and functionality, through the Pombaline style reflecting the enlightenment spirit of the time.

Today the town is geared towards commerce and tourism. The location (to the east) the mouth of the Guadiana, (to the south) the beach, (to the west) the pine forest (to the west) and (north) the Natural Marshland Reserve. 

The location of Vila Real de Santo António, is central and proximity to the Spanish border/Ayamonte which in itself is a great opportunity.

Visit the City Centre:
There are several monuments, namely the Mother Church of Nossa Senhora da Encarnação, built in the 18th century, the Obelisk, built in the centre of the town square, also in the 18th century, and the António Aleixo Cultural Centre, right in the centre of the town.
