Monte Gordo
Monte Gordo is a Portuguese parish in the municipality of Vila Real de Santo Antonio.
Various civilizations have been attracted by its wealth throughout history.
Its construction was completed in just 2 years, at the behest of the Marquês de Pombal who, through the Royal Charter of the foundation of Vila Real de Santo António, was built. Nowadays, the city maintains the Portuguese 18th century Pombaline architecture.
From the 19th century onwards, numerous sardine and tuna canning factories began to appear. In the 60s, the city becomes a pioneer in tourism. Its border with Spain was also very beneficial for the development of tourism. Today it is a very popular tourist destination. Portuguese pavement decorates the extensive beach promenade.
